Fox questions closure of Rural Action Centres
Borden-Carleton – Borden-Kinkora MLA Jamie Fox is questioning the impact that closure of Rural Action Centres will have on community economic development in rural Prince Edward Island..
“Rural Action Centres are one stop shops for programs and services from all levels of government to support business and community economic development. So I was disappointed to learn that the Rural Action Centre in our area and others are being closed and jobs are being lost,” says Fox.
Rural Action Centres operate in rural communities across Prince Edward Island in Central Bedeque, Souris, Alberton, Montague and Wellington. The Rural Action Centres provide local access to programs and services from all levels of government for small businesses, community development groups and prospective entrepreneurs.Fox advised he has learned that the Rural Action Centres in Central Bedeque and Souris have been closed.
“Rural Action Centres were the centrepiece of this government’s Rural Action Plan so now to see these centres being closed it makes me question this government’s commitment to rural economic development,” says Fox.
